Greetings Friends! We hope everyone is taking care of themselves and each other. This newsletter features many upcoming events to look forward to. We have reactivated our Instagram, @friends_of_mpl (https://www.instagram.com/friends_of_mpl/), so you can get more frequent updates there as well!

Holiday Book Sale

We will be hosting a Holiday Book Sale on December 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the book room at the Malden Public Library. We will be offering free gift-wrapping services (courtesy of Consumer Reports) and have several curated displays for potential gifts. See below for a couple of those displays.

  • For fans of the hit TV series, The Bear, we have cook books, chef memoirs, and novels about working in the food industry. We even have books featured in the show and on Carmy’s bookshelf!

  • For those looking to buy gifts for teachers, we have romance novels and other fun vacation reads.

  • For those looking for an activity to do with their family over the holidays, we have board games and puzzles.

Generally, children’s books are three for $1, softcover books are $1, and hardcover books are $2. No change will be given under a dollar. Please bring cash or check!

Upcoming Events

The next Friends meeting is on November 12. As a reminder, the Friends meet every second Tuesday of each month on the second floor of the Malden Public Library at 7:00 p.m. We hope to see you at the next meeting!

Below are some ongoing events in Malden in addition to Friends’ events:

October Pop-ups

We need acts of restoration, not only for polluted waters and degraded lands, but also for our relationship to the world. We need to restore honor to the way we live, so that when we walk through the world we don’t have to avert our eyes with shame, so that we can hold our heads up high and receive the respectful acknowledgment of the rest of the earth’s beings.”

Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants

We had a busy October. Check out pictures from our pop-ups!
