Winter Updates
“‘The future is already here. It’s just not evenly distributed yet.’ So goes the saying attributed to author William Gibson. If that is the case, then what will it take to redistribute the future? The first step, I think, is to reckon with who and what currently monopolize the space to envision the future, hoard the ability to dream, and privatize the resources it takes to materialize our imagination. After reckoning comes igniting the power to imagine other ways of organizing social life and building a world in which everyone can thrive.”
We started off the year strong with several pop-up events and our first-ever membership drive at the Members-Only Book Sale in January. Thank you to new members who joined! Below are some opportunities to get involved; if any are of interest to you, send us an email at [email protected].
Wine Tasting Gala Planning (May 9) - we have several committees to support the upcoming Wine Gala, including securing sponsors for the event, collecting donations for the silent auction, posting promotional flyers around Malden, setting up before the event, serving food, and cleaning up afterwards.
Spring Book Sale (April 4-5) - we have several roles for book sale, including cashier and keeping the book room tidy.
We had our pop-ups at the Chinese Cultural Connection’s Lunar New Year celebration and the Emmanuel Baptist Church’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Black History Month events. Check out pictures from the events below!
